A sprouting device is necessary - a sprouting bottle or layered containers

Put a small quantity of (e.g.) sunflower seeds in a straining device (strainer, colander, or sprouting tray) and rinse VERY well.

Soak for about 6 hours in clean water or a product such as “AVI-Med Safe Sprout” . Strain this water off, and rinse the seeds VERY well.

Place these in the sprouting device, and make sure that they never dry out by rinsing every few hours. (Drying out is the main cause of the sprouts going off)

In summer the sprouts will be ready 24 hours after placing in the sprouting device.
In winter it may take 48 hours.

Rinse well, place in an airtight container and refrigerate. Use as required.

Never make sprouts for more than 3 days. As the tails grow longer the sprouts tend to get bitter, and the parrots do not enjoy these.
