ToysToysToys

Samples of parrot play gyms made from PVC piping with either garden “T” and “L” pieces to join the corners or “PVC Weld” to glue the corners.  The latter must be very well set, and left to air before the parrot uses the gym.

The gym should be constructed with “steps” for the parrot to climb to the top. (e.g. 20cm)

Cross-score all the top surfaces with a large file to provide a firm grip for claws.

All sorts of toys may be utilised to decorate the completed gym.

For African greys I found the overall dimensions of 40x60x100 cm ideal.

20mm PVC piping seems good for greys, and 15mm for cockatiels. (The overall dimensions for a cockatiel are less, and it becomes a “table” version)

PVC is VERY hard-wearing, and I’ve never had a grey bite through one!

Once again introduce a new gym with patience and caution. The parrot’s success of using it, and the pleasure it can bring depends on the care givers empathy towards the parrot.
